Default media storage question?

I was wondering if anyone has ever used their PDA for media storage. I want to get a portable hard drive type storage, but was wondering if I could use my IPAQ. I don't think it is capable of that type of memory, but i thought I'd ask.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but I think memory for a PDA will cost you a lot more money than a hard disk drive for an X-drive. About eight months ago, I got one of the original X-drive units with 6 GB of hard disk, and the whole operation cost me less than $140.

Thanks for the responses guys. I actually have a 3800 series IPAQ, so I will look into it. But you may be right and it may be more expensive to go this route than to buy a 1 GB CF card. But I already have the IPAQ, so I thought I might try and use it.
Thanks again,
Christopher

The IPAQ only has 64 MB of internal memory. To get more memory, you have to use an external CF card. So I don't understand why you would want to use the IPAQ as a media storage.

Now, the IPOD would be a different story (it has a built in hard drive) but I'm not sure if there's a way to get your images from your CF card or camera into the IPOD without going through a computer.

Bob, you are not wrong. An inexpensive drive like the X is the most practical and cost effective way to go for portable offline storage..... unless you are a gadget freak that is not satisfied without having all the whistles and bells that can be packed into one package . Cost is keeping me grounded in reality right now and the X-Drive is looking better each day.

Bob and Rob,

You aren't kidding.

I have a 30 GIG X-Drive two that set me back no more than $200.00

Thirty times the storage of a 1Gig flash card for slightly less money......

Flash card = $230.00 per gig

X-drive = about $7.00 per gig (in the case of a 30 gig unit)
