Default S50 zoom switch intermitent

My s50 zoom switch is becoming intermitant in the zoom out direction.
My guess is this is just a contact waring or a dirty contact issue. I have probably taken 5000 pictures with it.

Does anyone know if the switch is sealed? or can this be cleaned.

Has any one tried spraying DEOXIT contact cleaner in the slide switch slot?

I have used this stuff on other electronics equipment and it has really
worked well.

I have no idea on the answer to the question. But one philosophy says that if the camera has to go to the shop anyway, why would it hurt to try your solution?

Depends on whether it's in warranty or not.

My S50 was purchaced in the fall of 2003 so I don't think there is any warranty left on it.

Has any one in the forum taken the S series cameras apart?

I've taken mine apart but didn't have a good look at the switch. Maybe this site http://www.thefotogeeks.com/canon_parts_diagrams.htm can shed some light.
