Default Safety First...

I normally don't post photos in this area, but got one today that I really like.

We were at my nephew's birthday party and, despite the overhead sun and some real harsh shadows, I managed to get this one:

My wife and I gave him a tool bench; a miniaturized version of his Dad's. The kid went nuts. He couldn't get enough of the safety goggles.

Shot with the 20D and 70-200mm f/2.8L at ISO 200. Not sure of the exposure...

Hehe, we got our son a Black and Decker Toolbench for his birthday - he also loves it. It comes with a squeeze powered cordless drill / driver. Whenever I get the drill out, he runs off to get his drill .

A really nice shot steve. The shadows work quite well in this photo.

Thanks.

It's just a tad on the soft side, I think, but I still dig the shot...

Is it soft because it's not focussing on his eyes, more his cheek (and his collar is also in focus)

Good point. Maybe close the aperture a tad more as well (maybe one stop?)

The kid's a stick of dynamite with feet. He doesn't stand still for too long, and rarely is there anything which could be considered a "posed" shot.

This one was shot on the fly, during a second-and-a-half moment of "down-time" for him!

I think this is a fine effort..exposure looks good to me. That accented light on the right side of his face is a nice touch.

Sharpness? eh, who cares. It's a fun photo and he definitely looks like he's happy with his new toy.

Cheers!

Soft? Come on. You can see the fabric fuzz on his shirt!

Nice catch!
