The manual says for "adequate quality" to use Fine compression. I have a large storage card, so I'm not worried about space. Is there any reason not to use superfine compression? I am also using L resolution. When I download, and use print preview, the image is huge. Then when I try to edit, it sometimes takes the computer a long time (as I guess it is modifying a really huge image). Is this a reason to use less resolution? Or do you resize before enhancing the images? Very confusing concepts.

If you want to have the best image you need to use the least compression and the highest resolution.
I have never used anything but this setting, except for taking pictures in RAW. The only reason to use more compression is to get more pictures on a card and trade some quality. The only reason to use lower resolution is to get more pictures and faster downloads, this would be useful if the use of the pictures would be limited to screen or web viewing. As far as your download times and viewing size, this would be dependant on the hardware and software that you are using, not on the Camera. Sometimes the learning curve is confusing, but keep on asking questions and soon it will all make sense. |
