Default Empire State Building Observatory

I visited Empire State Building Observatory this morning. I was a bit unlucky as it started to rain in 15 minutes as I got there and whole NY got covered with fog. I don't really like any of NY pictures I took from there but I like the picture of the Observatory itself couple minutes after the rain started. It was just a moment ago all crowed with people ...

Just for the reference: one of pictures I managed to take before it started to rain.

Wow - I really like your first shot. Like eltwitcho said - lots of atmosphere. For me, it evokes an old time look. I can't put my finger on what it is. I wish those 2 woman in the front had their arms covered - I think it would work better for that 40's or 50's look. Since you say it's OK to edit photos, I decided to put a sepia tone to it. I like it - but I am certainly not saying it's better. Just that is how I see it.

Thanks, sepia version looks interesting. On the other hand I like that red "Turn to clear vision" knob so much and it is less visible in sepia. Might be interesting to try combined version where all picture is say black and white but knob is red.

My eye is already drawn to the red knob in the color photo so I don't think having it remain red in a b/w photo would be too bad. Try it!!

Maybe it's due to the fact that the observation deck hasn't changed much, those things have been there for a long time. If they took those out and installed some new hightech ones, the nostalgia would be gone

great shot, i like it.

Is this effect closer to what you're interested in? Quick 3 minute conversion using midnight sepia action..i.e. no tremendous post processing done.

Interesting. May be a bit too dark. I'm might try to do that ... once I finish with my huge pile of unprocessed pictures of night New York

I like the shot quite a bit, a nice art deco era feel to it.
I thought the horizon was a bit tilted to the left and needed some tightening up with a bit of desat and red/green tones, contrast and a bit of burning.

Did you try turning the knob to clear the fog?
