Default Name That Place . . .

I thought I'd try a twist on a photo-posting exercise being done over in another thread of the forum.

Maybe it should be called "Name This Place?"

How would this work out:

You have to identify where the photo above was taken, then post one for the next person to guess. They should not be really obscure, like the back of an alley somewhere that no-one else has ventured, but places of some interest, anywhere in the world.

I'll start with this one:
http://sdwike.smugmug.com/photos/31455989-L.jpg

And no fair cheating by trying to search around the web sites where images are hosted, to figure out the locations.

Edit:
Questions for hints are ok.
After ten incorrect guesses, the O.P. has to post a hint, either words or a more recognizable shot of the location.

Can we do the estimate thing. Like if I ask, " Was this taken in Europe?" You can say, "Yes, getting close."

I think that's fair, SuzyView. This place is indeed European, uses the Euro for currency, is on the Mediterranean Sea, and is likely recognizable to all that have visited the town. Taken from any wider an angle, it would be a dead giveaway, as most have seen it in books or magazines.

was gonna guess italian riviera -- been all up and down that area -at least this place was on my itinerary that particular trip. I have seen this; but then that trip took me along that side of the boot. . . . lol- gettin old ---this looks familiar but can't recall the town. could post to my sis but that would be cheating. might be easier to see a bit more of the make up of the beach (sand, pebbles, stones, . . . )

I'm not so sure, MPOWER. I think you have to be a little more specific than a country
