Default Karma... what goes round...(whatever) stories

In brief I had a few nature negs of mine scanned in 2004 and the experience was one reason I got into DSLR. Both those scans and my first few Digicam shots were of Koala.

Then it happened - The Great Maxtor Hard Drive Crash Of 2005. Being a newb to digital all was lost, all I had left was the FSLR negs.

But did I rant and loose faith in 1s and 0s? Lo, verily I was tempted... but no, I just learned a big lesson.

Fast forward to this week when a courier arrived with a new coffee-table colour book in a parcel, the book I submitted photos to use for free. Its got my pix in the book... (yeah! open a beer!) and it comes with a CD with my original files on it too. Even the mpgs I sent over. Bonus! All the files I donated to use if they wanted; its a fundraiser for Koala Foundation.

So thats how to safely archive your files: send them to the States in a bottle and one day they come back to you! My faith in 1s and 0s is renewed.

Nice, must be good to get your work in print. I've managed to get my name in a couple of books, but when it comes to photos I've never managed anything beyond newspapers and newsletters.

You want to show us the photos that got printed

Well, I found out more just digging around in the CD. The editor made a koala stock library. This is curious. They are thumbs of what came back to me on CD. It says requests will be forwarded to me. Hmmm. Can't see it making much money.

This one of mine is the 'frontpiece'.

This is the best photo in the book IMHO. Love it, cute city. A young Koala scrambling; its by Amanda Rhode.
