Default experimental for me..

My first attempt at this type of pic. I'm not even sure if i used the standard process to produce it. They're made from several hand held paning shots and PS'ed together. Any feed back would be great! All with a 2.8L 70-200

Brilliant, I like them a lot. I'd thought they would be more sports though? Never mind anyway. Great job to say they're hand-held though! Must have been a lot of work!!

Thank you.

Yes, they are in sports too, but like the title says this is new stuff for me and thought they would get more exposure and garner more feedback in here.

I'd say they are appropriate here - definitely experimental. And I love them - excellent work.

These are really cool.

How far away were you?

Was this planned? ie he was jumping for the pictures?

Thank you. Do you mean experimental by the way it was put together? I seem to recall seeing im
ages like this in surfing and snowboarding mags. I just figured they used a tripod and a wide lens. I probably did it the back-woods hillbilly way. haha

I was the length of the ski rope + 4', my guess would be in-between 30 and 40 feet away. The FL was probably around 135mm. As far as planning goes, he was planning on having fun and i was planning on shooting while he was having it.

Thanks again to everyone, it's great to get some positive feedback. It was also nice to capture some images that looked good and not have done it on accident. I think this is the first time. haha

The week before i went to seaworld and took 557 pics of which only 100 or so were even worth keeping. (mostly for memories) But this past weekend i took 512 pics and at least 460 of them were worth keeping by a quality standpoint.

It's starting to get really fun!

Joe,

If It's not to much to ask, can you explain how you did this.

Great pictures

Great pictures
Sure, i'm not very good at explaining stuff like this though. I'm pretty much self taught in PS, like most people i assume.

Well, first to capture the images i used the Continuous H drive on my 30D and simply followed him across the wake and through the air.

Then i got opened the series in PS minimizing all images except for the first one. -- I changed the canvas size to something larger than i would need. 150 inches or so, while keeping the image oriented on the left center of the canvas.

Then i opened the next image in the series and using the rectangular select tool i selected the area about 2 inches to the left of the rider and all of what was to the right of him. (planning on using the right side of the subject as the next background) After aligning the images using the shoreline and tree line i selected a large 300 circular eraser brush with 0 hardness and erased what was covering up the subject in the previous image.

From here it's simply repeat as necessary. And at the end i just used the crop tool which took care of the excess canvas size from the frist step. I did made the mistake of being close in on the subject, and in order to keep him somewhat center frame i had to pan up with him as he went into the air. If i were to do this again i would have backed off to an 80mm or so FL and just paned a level line. This would have made PP much faster and easier. Because of panning in the line of an rainbow i ended up with blank canvas areas in the lower center and in the upper left corners that i had to replicate with wake and clouds in order to finish the image.

Hope i've explained clearly, happy to answer any other questions you have.
