Default Barn Swallows...in a barn...swallowing.

I was away for the weekend at my in-laws while my Ottawa buddies were busy hunting Kingbird fledglings . Little did I know that I would find some of my own, but these were Barn Swallows, and still nestlings when I arrived.

They breed every year here, but always way up in the barn with no good photo ops. This year, on the other hand, there was a nest no higher than eight feet up and very accessible. There were 5 nestlings, on the verge of leaving the nest, and quite active too. While everyone had fun in the swimming pool I had other plans ...and these are some of the results.

By the time the weekend was over, three of the nestlings had fledged the nest, and are featured here in the fourth photograph.

All photos taken with the aide of the 420EX flash, as the light was virtually a non-factor here. I think the results are nice considering the flash unit is the main source of light...
