Default Hey, new canon owner here. Help me out with my new sd400

Hey how you guys doing? I just got an sd400 from a friend and I am very interested in how to get the most out of this camera... can someone direct me to somewhere with lots of info. For example, what each setting means, and how and when to use them. Thanks alot.... and i'll post some photos as soon as I learn to use this thing to its full potential.

The manual will tell you exactly what you want to know. Try the canon website if you don't have a hard copy. Also, the book "Understanding exposure" by Bryan Peterson is very helpful in learning why to use the various settings. But the manual will tell you how.

I find the best way for people to learn is to find shots they like(online, magazines, etc), and then read up/refer to the manual on how to achieve that. It's often hard to relate the theory to the end result when reading

I really like the manual from Canon's website. Yea - I know it takes a bunch of paper to print the "advanced" manual but (here's my point) you can print full size pages for a looseleaf notebook that are easier to read and you can highlight and write notes all over the pages.

You can also search the PDF Manual from the Canon web site for what you have a question about. It sure beats flipping pages. When you get to what you want you can zoom in to 1600% and get some real readable type.

Take a look at: http://www.shortcourses.com/using/index.htm it can help get you off to a good start. The last chapter is "Seeing Creative Images" probably just what you want.

Looks like you are off to a great start. Good Luck and happy shooting.
My SD400 is an original over three years old and still performs great
on an almost daily basis.
