Default Does intentional vignetting ever work ?

I used Camera Raw for the vignetting to create a more moody ambience, I wonder if it works or does it look like a flaw?

Please feel free to comment any part of the picture, or are the subject and composition boring in the first place?

editted: a lot of colour loss while i saved for web =(

J: I think that given the right circumstances and composition, it could be useful.

H: In your example here though, the upper left corner pulls a little too hard on the eye.

J: Intentional "burning in " of the corners has long been a mainstay in the (film) Printer's toolbox, and can be used to good effect if kept subtle.

H: In this shot, I burned the upper left corner a bit to contribute to the natural "framing" effect in the rest of the composition...

J&H

BTW, I think that your composition balances the positive and negative spaces very well.

Vignetting, or the gradual lightening of the background toward the edges, is not so much in favor as it once was. At one time, practically every portrait made had the image in the center, surrounded by a background that faded off to clear paper a short distance from the image. This gave the effect of the image floating in mid-air without any means of suport, and the lightening of the tone toward the edges tended to distract the attention from the center. However, vignetting to remove the background combined with spot printing to darken the edges and corners can be used to advantage with portraits, especially those taken outdoors.

I took this shot a while ago and feel the vignetting done it justice, but I brightened the flowers too much, causing slight lose of focus, I'll start again with the origional and repost....Flowers

edit: wow, a lot of noise has occured now in the online picture....
