Default First shots with new camera

Hey all,

Well a 300D recently came into my possession which i am extremely excited about it!! I have heaps to learn, i don't even really know the basics but it is good fun experimenting.

Here is a shot i took within about 2 mins of opening the box And another i took this morning.

And advice/ideas/criticism would be greatly appreciated.

I too have to say, what perfect timing shot with the dog licking it's chops and staring at that piece of cake.
Good focus on the web, excellent work, well done.

Congrats on new camera
I feel happy when someone get new gears and impressing so good excatly as i do if i get new new gears.
Like the first shot with that hungry dog, the second i hate it because simply i hate spiders the most thing in this world, so thier webs will remind me to them.

Thanks Tony, Tareq!

Is the first shot too dark at all, or does the focus look incorrect?

it is ok, i like that dark and i think the focus was on the piece of Cake, i think you used an aperature of 2.8 or so close, thats why DoF was very shallow even on that cake.

the first shot looks good as it was lit from a window, i am assuming, above and behind the dog. they are both strong images. I dont know how much photo experience you have (doesnt seem like much), but i think that you have a great eye for it. i think we will be seeing some very stunning images from you in the future.

cute dog.
