Default Chicago Welding Company Fire (Caution: 8 Images)

This one was going pretty good when I got there. My wife was with me for the first time on this one but decided to stay in the car when she heard the incident commander report that the building contained acetylene tanks that were burning.

1. The fire went through the roof just before I got there making this a very photogenic fire.

2. Here a Firefighter from Engine 117 flushes a fire hydrant prior to connecting to the Rig.

3. Now that he has a positive source of water, Engine 117's Engineer is shown here sending water to put on the fire.

4. The fire was really going at this point.

5. Rolling.

6. Do to the volatile nature of this buildings contents, an exterior attack was employed.

7. Focus.

8. Upper hand achieve. Squad 1's Snorkel using the water provided from Engine 117 (image 3 above) and the rest of the companies on scene bring the fire under control.

Glad you're back Scott. I always look for your shots. While those black smoke shots are pretty spectacular, it's the close ups of the fire fighters that always grab me.

These fire photos are great.. Coming from a family of firefighters(my grandfather was the batallion chief for Alexandria, VA in the 70's) I like the shots of the men themselves. Excellent work..

Thank you. I have come to call them "Working Faces" shots. The families of these men and women really do like to see them.

It is supposed to do that. Keeps things cool when working above fire.

Thanks everyone!
