Default Pre Wedding Pics

I am shooting my first wedding for my nephew and his fiance in November in Chicago. The bride wants to take location pics of HER only in her wedding dress at various locations around town. This seems a little wierd to me. Any thoughts?

Also the wedding and reception are at a banquet hall. I just found out that after the ceremony the staff is converting the room to dining almost immediately (15 min). Enough time for formal pics?

Thanks for your help.

I have done 2 weddings where we did the bride in her full dress, hair and makeup a week or two before the wedding. They both wanted allot of pictures and the timing of the events on the day of the wedding didn't allow for it. It was weird but also very nice to not have the pressures of the wedding day.

15 minutes is most likely not enough time for formal photos...but just because the room will be converted in 15 minutes...does that mean that the reception will start right away? The guests will have to vacate for the change-over and it might take them at least 30 minutes to get back in order (bathroom & smoke breaks etc). Then the couple might want to make their entrance only after everyone is seated etc....so you 'should' have more than the 15 minutes.

It's getting more and more popular to do the formal shots before the actual wedding. It's less stressful and gives them (& you) back the time between the ceremony and the reception. The main issue is the tradition of the B&G not seeing each other beforehand.

The pre weding picture opportunity is a blessing! If you look at the various books on wedding photography nearly all the artsy shots of the bride are taken before the wedding. You just do not have the time to set up such elaborate shots between the ceremony and the reception. This gives you a chance to use several locations you would also not be able to use on wedding day.

Love the physc story. I would be interested in hearing more about that.

I never thought of it that way. I always thought it was a little strange to want to have pictures of yourself (the bride) in your dress to put up during the wedding/reception, but this makes sense. More time for artsy stuff w/good hair and makeup and a relaxed bride who wants to take tons of pics.

15 mins is not enought time to do all the formals. Try to convince them that they won't be happy w/the pics if you don't have more time (in a nice way of course).
