Default Wide angle lenses for G2

I have just taken delivery of a wide angle conversion lense for G2. I ordered the WC-DC58 but have been sent the WC-DC58N. The supplier is telling me that this is approved by Canon for use with the G2 and gives a magnification of 0.7. Can anyone tell me if this is correct. It seems rather too large for the body. Please help.

Hmmm. As I understand it, the Wide Converter WC-DC58N is .8x for the G3 or G5 only, and specifically requires a LA-DC58B conversion lens adaptor. The WCDC58 is .7x and is for the G1 and G2 with the LA-DC58 lens adaptor.

Since different thread sizes are involved in lenses and filters you might want to use, and step rings to accomodate them, I suggest you get someone who knows more about it to comment on the compatibility issues. Good luck.

I'm not sure but I think you can use either lens on the g2. Go into a local camera store and see if it works. I think they are both screw on 58 mm mounts. That would be the only problem. Search the archive on this sight because I think this has been answered about a year ago.

Thanks for the replies. The saga continues....

I finally got the right adaptor, the LA-DC58, for the G2. The wide converter WC-DC58N for the later models of the camera does indeed fit on the threads onto the camera body. However, I am not at all happy with the results. There is a very significant amount of blurring with the converter added on. So much so that the image quality is so degraded I wouln't want to use it! I'm planning to send it back to the shop and try the original one for the G2.

What degree of image quality loss should I expect with the conversion lens? Is there some incompatibility here with focal lengths or something?
