Default 20D Vs 30D

Hello there...

I own a Canon 20D and I was looking at the 30D right now... The first thing I saw that is different was the LCD monitor and that it has more resolution in the LCD monitor...

If you are an owner of a 20D... would you sell it to get the 30D?...

No, I haven't seen any indication that it's enough of an improvment to make it worth my while to sell the 20D and buy one. Besides, my 20D is very very well used and probably wouldn't sell for much.

I'd stick with the 20D and buy a nice lens

I'm holding out for a 1 series camera. For now, I'm just going to keep my 20D and shoot it until it dies.

Depends. Do any of these things interest you?

-Spot Meter
-1/3rd step ISO setting
-2.5" LCD
-ever so slightly improved AF (probably unnoticable)

For all the reasons that KevC mentioned and the fact that I got a really nice
price for my 20D after 18 monts and 30,000 shots, for me it was a no brainer.

If you want to sell your 20D then now it's the time and you get a good price.
If you wait longer you loose more. I lost only about 200 € after 18 monts use.

For me I love the big LCD, now I can see the menu's with my old eyes ... .
And the spotmetering I've allways wanted it. About the better focus: I have
the feeling that it's a bit better but I can't say it for shure. Somtimes it's just
a feeling and some results with the 24-105 are better and some sharper, for
my eyes. But like I said, it's more a feeling then a real fact.

Good luck.

The 1/3 ISO and spot metering would be what would make me upgrade should I ever but I can't see that happening - much more likely is that I'll move up to a body like the 5D or 1DmkIIN and use the 20D as a backup. The improvements are incremental for the most part between the 30D and the 20D compared to, say, the 10D->20D.

Having said that, if I could somehow sell my 20D and buy a 30D for only $100 more than the price I sold the 20D for I'd definitely upgrade. I somehow doubt the difference would be this little though AU$400? Heck no. I could buy a lens for that price. An 85mm 1.8 would benefit my photography more than an extra metering mode and more incremental ISO.

Of course i will sell mine in a heartbeat, only if i am offered the price of a new 30D.
In reality, it's not happening. So no. Why waste the extra money when you can use it to fund a nice lens?

Nope, keeping my 20D (but I don't have much of a need to upgrade it anyway).

I wouldn't sell a 20D at a loss either. I have a 30D because I was coming from an XT..and THAT is a real upgrade.

I had my 20D stolen a couple of weeks ago. I am not back at uni yet so my uncle let me borrow his 30D so that I could take photos in my last week of holiday. There are some things I prefer and some things I dont like at all. the LCD falls in both of these categories. Like - bigger so good for on the spot chimpin. Dislike - gets very messy as it takes up so much of the back of the camera it is a cheek magnet. Like the 1/3rd stop ISO bit havent found the Spot meter to be much different from Partial

Nope. The minor improvements just don't swing the deal for me.

And lately with the price of a used 20D dropping like a rock it widens the upgrade cost gap even further.

Next body I get is going to be a 1D, I just have to convince myself that giving up the onboard flash is worth it.
