Default potn AUSSIE CLUB: thinks, links 'n drinks

Welcome all. Toowomba to Toorak, Broome to Bondi, Larrakeyah to Longford...

The club's main job is to run like a non-stop newsletter - headsup and hints on what other potn aussie shooters are doing.

I'm starting this thread to help keep up with all the threads and pics and aussie stuff I am missing. We have a lot of newer members and there's some good stuff going on.

Rambles and Rants welcome but watch the POTN RULES (see link in the sky blue bar -top of page).

Remember to paste the address of the potn thread or whatever.

Gday Jim. Here's hoping it fires up.
I was thinking of a POTN meet like we did in Sydney last year (it was okay) and yesterday we just missed each other... but if we had mentioned what we were doing beforehand.... anyway I'd like to chat etc. And for that we need something more.

Queensland / Brisbane shooters are well in front already:

http://www.photography-on-the.net/fo...d.php?t=204347

http://www.photography-on-the.net/fo...d.php?t=217686
and thats for the second meeting.

After the Bronco's win, they'll be doing other things for a few days.

Hey, that army thing looked like it was good fun..

Yeah, another meet sounds really good - I have the next two weeks off and then I'm busy with prac for three weeks after that and then I'm mostly off until Janurary so I'm definitely keen for a good meet Are you thinking Newcastle or Sydney?

I'm thinking we can go anywhere. Need some ideas.

I notice you're selling a bag. I was up late late last night fitting my homemade bag with neoprene from a small wetsuit I had in the shed for a few years. I thought I'd glue it, but in the end I used string stitches. The lens divider panels were made from a for sale sign - corflute- same as my lighting snoots.

Hmm. You know, that doesn't sound like a half bad idea for a bag. I ended up buying a Lowepro Stealth Reporter D400AW for my gear once I got the grip as it just doesn't fit in the Nova 2... am VERY happy with that purchase, the bag is awesome though it is a bit big for casual use - I may very well try a custom bag idea for when I just want something small and casual looking that still fits the 20D with grip... Old wetsuits aren't hard to come across, either, and that should be pretty good padding. We even have a few old diving wetsuits lying around in the garage, I think - 9mm neoprene should make them nice and safe.

Thanks for that idea, I might try it in a couple of weeks when my time frees up some

Re: meeting.. how many other Novocastrian shooters have we got? There has to be some good events coming up in Newcastle or up the valley in the next couple of months that would be worth doing a day of

The bag itself is just a strong black nylon laptop bag. I cut off the skinny shoulder strap and sewed on a metre or so of car black safety belt webbing. I used a strong thread and a big needle and some bullnose pliers to push the needle thru. Works so far, and its loaded with 4-5 lenses. I have a Domke belt pack simply for the 70-200. I keep my lighting gear in other shoulder bags. I bag, a nice handycam bag, was $5 at Temora when I noticed a camera shop /chemist closing down.

As for a meet, I'm getting up early for a beach shoot at Redhead Surf Club tomorrow...5ish
I want seagulls on an orange sky sort of stuff.

5am being in 5 hours? You're mad I'm working 3-11 so there's no way I'm getting up that early... I will be having a few early mornings in the next two weeks though as I'm on holidays and won't be working every day. I'm going to try and get some good ones of Newcastle/Merewether Baths/Bogey Hole at dawn if you want to come into Newcastle one calm morning in the next fortnight

Hi Boutty -wee small hours for that post or what! Celebrations or commisarations (imho the Storm lost the big one on defence mainly).

My billy is away with the 20yo son; camping/blowing stuff up. So yours is welcome. I've just got back from a sunrise shoot. Got the coffee tin out and toasted some crumpets -fed brekky to wifey in bed. A happy little house this AM.

Downloading CF now.

[ happy dance ] wow, wonderful landscape shots!!! Gonna get a prize at the club this month!

This was the first golden hour shoot with the 200L -struth! No need for Cokin etc. I think I'm ready to believe its as good a IQ as the 135L.

Here's the thread:

Quick, post 'em! I had a chance to look through a friend's 200L the other day, while I didn't take any pictures with it it was pretty nice to use... I was quite surprised at how small and light it was, I was expecting something rather thicker.

(yay, 1,000th post! )
