Report on Digifinder for G3

HI guys. I just got the digifinder LCD madnified sun shade,that I read about in a photo magazine.

The purpose of it is to be able to use the LCD in bright sunlight. Yeasterday I took it outside and faced the sun and with the finder the LCD is totally viewable. I then had the sun at my back, my left side and then my right side and the LCD screen was totally viewable, no glare at all.

It has two settings. 1- retracted which allows you to view it with both eyes and 2 - Extender which allows you to use it like an eye level view finder. They both work very well. The magnifier works well but does magnify the LCD lines slightly. I was not bothered by this. I tried manusl focus with the macro mode and it lets you focuse easier.

The negative is the mounting system. It gives you three differnt ways to mount. Bracket A for smaller LCD screens and bracket B for G3 and an adaptable one.

Using bracket B you get a double sided sticky tape which you mount on the LCD screen making it permanet. This means you have to have the screen always showing but they thought of damage. They give you a plastic protective screen to put into the holder. It has a push lever action for release, all you do is remove it and put in the digifinder when needed. The LCD can be move rotated and angled as before the only thing it cant do is reverse it in a closed position. The only problem I see with this is you have to be mindfull not to loose the protective screen.

You can view the LCD very well with the protective cover on but I can see if it gets scratched you will have to remove it which is no big deal.

At first glance it is a very positive system, it eliminates glare very well and I also have the hoodman which does not in all cases. It has the ability to use it like an SLR which means good sports coverage.

I have tried to figure if the mounting of the hoodman was a better system but I found it be a problem with moving and this system is a positive lock. I think the LCD position of out can be lived with.
