Real nice shots. And I was just reading about Red Shoulder Hawks in my bird book last night. It's nice to compare a live one to a drawing in a book.

I'm no expert but the second bird really looks like a short-tailed hawk to me. In all plumages, a red-tailed hawk shows a dark belly band or a completely dark underside.

thanks for the comments guys.

rubberhead, its certainly possible that its not a red tail, i am away from home and my bird guide, and it was just the only other hawk i was aware of that lives in the keys.

That's real cool Billy,

As fast as they fly horizontally in front of you, it's lucky you even got them in your sights...

They must have been really moving right along, cause the 1/1000th of a second, shutter speed, didn't slow them down...

I had one of these hawk's right outside my door just now...It's not often I see one around...If I had checked my windows first, before stepping out, I might have gotten some shots off...

My 400mm 5.6L is ordered and on the Big Brown Truck, heading this way...Soon, I hope to share a picture or two of the birds of the forest, from around here...I'm so excited about the lens, that it's already in my gear list signature...
