Default Sports Gig, how much to charge

I shoot a semi-practice game (one against the alumni) of my Girlfriend's uni's softball team gratis. The coach loved the pictures and wants me to come to games and shoot for them. The the team would pay gas and she said we can work out a price for my shooting.

I have no experience with doing this sort of thing paid, so I was hoping some of this forum's members could offer some suggestions.
Thanks in advanced,
Riley

It's really a matter of the what the photos are worth to them. As a photojournalism/reporting intern this summer, I made about $6/game, lol.

Yea I realize that it does rely on them pretty highly. I am just trying to get a feel for whats out there so that I don't go in and look stupid with discussing it with them. It's probably problematic that i don't exactly know their intentions for the use of the pictures. But thanks for point this out.

I make $30 plus mileage for each game from one of the newspapers and get free advertising from the other one. I also have a commercial website where I sell individual prints to players and their parents.

Not sure how big this "uni" is but, IUPUI which is Div II pays $125 a game for the images and they generally are only used on the website. As long as there is money in the budget thats what they pay. Towards the end of the year that rate may go down a bit tho.

OPPS, almost forgot, you better check with the SID if your planning on selling any images to parents/players. You may be in violation of NCAA or conference rules. Currently that whole deal is such a mess I won't touch an NCAA team.

Ok I did a bit of checking and EOU is in the NAIA. From what I can gather it is a gathering of some of the area's smaller public and private universities.

Thanks for the heads up about the SID, I figured I would have to do some checking with folks about where I can shoot etc.

Thanks for the opinions thus far.
