Is that a 300mm in your pocket?
|
For a long time now I visit 2 sites each day
www.pbase.com/pad and http://www.photo.net/gallery/photocritique/filter Why is it that photo.net photos stand out. They are so vibrant and well done makes a lot of pbase look like point and shoot. These 2 sites give me ideas and photo.net something to compare my work to and I fall short. So is it a pro site. Why do so many of these photos look so amazing? |

Fark, they're nice photos at photo.net. There's some great photographers there, and some good PP too.

Phil Greenspun started that site quite some time ago, and it pulls in a lot of pros. It also seems to put a lot of newbies off - they're not always so kind. But when you have regulars like Bob Atkins and a lot of pros you're going to get some nice info there.

Ah that explains why I always go WOW. I found that it has been a great site to gauge my work on. When I feel I could post a photo there I know Im getting better.

I've been a member of Photo.net for most of the time it's been online -I joined back when it was Phil G.'s personal site. There are some great photographers there, but the crowd here is actually much friendlier.

pbase is open for everyone, and there are tons of users. think of how many more point and shoots are out there than dslrs, then think about how many more rebels are out there compared to 1 series. So there are bound to be more amatueer shots then pro shots, unless you can get the pros into one place. I don't personally frequent either of those sites on a regular basis, but there are many pro sites for industry specific niches like sports, automotive or weddings.

Also, that photo.net-listing seems to be sorted according to rating, while the pbase PaD-listing is just displaying the most recents contributions.
Which hardly seem fair when comparing which site has the best pictures. Have you looked at this listing at pbase, which lists according to popularity? http://www.pbase.com/galleries?view=popular&period=7 Now I just need to understand why _my_ galleries aren't showing up there... |
