Thinking about UV filters.
Plenty of good discussion out there about whether to use or not to use a UV filter all the time, for protection or otherwise. Also, most posts seem to say Heliopan, B+W, or Hoya is the way to go. Totally makes sense not to skimp on a filter when you spent over $1000 on a lens. Still, I am curious about people's experience with Calumet's filters?

I don't know who makes them for Calumet, but they would fall into the same category as other lower grade filters.

I have read they are made by Hoya...Also googled them and found a photo.net post saying they are made by Lee. (I think that may be something different, when you type Hoya into Calumets site, you get their filters.)

I won't trust "house brands". B+W, Hoya and Heliopan are filter makers; anyone else is a relabeller of who knows what, which may change without notice.

Purchased a UV at Calumet since I am in a hurry and couldn't make it anywhere else. It's a multi-coated and guy said it was made by Hoya. But take that with a grain of salt.

Have a Calumet filter on my 70-300 IS. Did tests with filter on and off to see if there was a quality differnce and there didn't seem to be any. But then again I am not the most scientific person in the world.
