I'd be interested in knowing this as well. I've decided to go Mac in the spring if at all possible, mainly due to what I've read on this forum.

I also need to find somewhere that will honor my educator's discount. Unless the price is cheaper then apple.com with the discount...

Apple offers a education discount. Just buy it from Apple.

If you are going to BTO it, the only place to buy it is at Apple.com or Apple's EDU site. If you are going to buy a stock system, I would check out MacMall or Amazon.com

They both offer good deals, Amazon has free shipping and they both dont charge tax which always help.

If you dont mind buying a refurbished Mac, they have some on their site for a considerable savings. Same warranty, and still eligable for Apple Care.

I have a powerbook G4 (15 inch, core 2 duo processor), which I only use to do my work, I don't do the net on it. I love it, but I also still use my PC (laptop). Anyhoo I searched, and searched and just went with Apple. I got the education discount!

Apple doesn't allow its resellers to discount. None are allowed to sell them for more than $5 less than Apple's set price. The education discount are only available from Apple as far as I know.

Some places compete buy offering extras, more RAM, a printer, or otherwise. Macmall commonly doubles the RAM for the same price.

I got my Macbook Pro from American Musical Supply. They allow you to buy with a debit card and will allow you to make 5 monthly payments - no interest, no tax (outside of New Jersey I suppose). I don't know if it is possible to take advantage of this outside of the U.S.

I sure wish there was a photo supply place that did this.

You either have a MacBookPro with an Intel processor, or you have a PowerBook G4 with a PowerPC G4 in it. Unless you got a MacBookPro in the two weeks or so, it has an Intel Core duo, as the Core 2 Duo based MacBookPros were only released two weeks ago.

If you do qualify for an education discount, buying from Apple using the education discount is the cheapest and best method for buying a Mac. You can find the details about the education discount here:

Apple Store for Education

Pick the appropiate options and the store will update the prices on all items to reflect the education discount.
