Default Buying a starter lens

Hey guys!

I'm really starting to get into this, and I was thinking to buy a new lens for my 400d (I do have the 17-55 kit lens already). What I wanna do is shooting sports (lacrosse and soccer mainly, some football prolly too). So I would need one with some decent zoom on it right?
However, I'm still a student and my "funds" are somewhat smaller than those of a professional. So is there a lens that a student can afford (let's say below ~200 bucks) that would fit my needs?

I would greatly appreciate your answers.
Matty

I am afraid that with that budget you may not be able to buy anything significantly better than the lens you already have.

You may consider a 50 f1.8, which is a good lens and can be adequate for some indoor sports on a crop camera, or perhaps a second hand 85 f1.8, a fast and excellent lens.

May be Tamron AF28-200MM F/3.8-5.6 XR Aspherical is around your budget: itīs well reputated for the price/IQ and you can have a look to it:

The Sigma 70-300mm F/4-5.6 APO DG is another alternative, and I think is near to the $200

Think about if you are going to shoot indoor or low light conditions, you will need a faster lens (f/2.8 ) and these ones are more expensive.

A second hand lens it will be also an alternative.
