Default Hotel Toiletries

How do you think these rate as still life/stock shots? Am I getting there?

I love them! I think the second one is better because the products are all in focus with everything else OOF... but not enough that you don't have a context for the products.

Greetings, To me the first pic is confusing as to what the subject is. The second pic is much better in this respect and in composition. I like the colors in both. KC

#2 is great, maybe a tad underexposed (or is that just me?)

#1 would be better if all the toiletries were in focus.

Many thanks for the nice comments, guys.... Just wish my bathroom was as nice as this!!

I have a close up of the bottles in focus, but the writing's indistinct, so doesn't really look all that good.

Need more practice, need a better flash...

Here's the other shot.

The second image is much better in terms of what the subject matter is...the first shot just doesn't do much for me.

As technical aspect I'd say #2 is great. From a stock point of view I guess the fact that you can read the product name limits the scope for use by anyone else.

Great point, Damian, and thanks for the comments. Wasn't really looking to sell these shots, just wanted to see if I'm ok with the technique, that's all.

First image:
color seems a bit off, tilting to the right, unclear what's in the boxes, distracting reflection in the lower left corner, and you (gasp!) clipped the shadow on the right.

Second image:
much much better. The composition is nice. The toiletries on the little tray with the note behind makes me feel as if they are being offered to me. I like that.

Dang, yeah, bugger about nicking the shadow and agree about the white balance on that one. I was much happier with the second shot as well, even though I had to stand on tippy-toes to get the right framing for it!

Gasp! (again) - you didn't have your collapsible manfrotto footstool with you? ( )
