After days of reading I think this will be my next lens. I was shopping and comparing all the tele zooms like the sigma 120-400 and canon 70-300 IS, but now I can't wait to find one of these used. I hope I can...

Thanks Monique. That's my lens! Price was just updated to $570 shipped plus Paypal. It took the picture of the Boxer on the bottom of page 32!

I've been researching this lens quite a bit (likely my next big lens purchase) and I'm a bit concerned with the CA at f/2.8. I looked at the charts at The Digital Picture and was a little put-off by the CA wide open. Is it really that bad in practice? I figure I'll be using this lens wide-open quite a bit, especially for sports. I'll be using a 30D.

CA isn't really an issue with this. The 135L and 85IIL have far more CA than the 200IIL.
What I would say it that there is CA colouring if the point of focus is off. From the review site that you posted, I'd say that there's a slight front focus to image. It's not a surprise really, it was taken with a pre-live view camera. I've owned and used a number of good 70-200/2.8 lenses from Sigma and Canon. optically, they are pretty much the same but with different contrast, build ect. The 200mm f2.8 II L is sharper and has less vignetting than any of the zooms. If you want versatility, get the zoom. If you want the best optically, then get the prime. |

I think I will get the 200mm prime but I'll also keep my 70-210mm zoom for when I need the versatility.

Anybody use this with the 2x converter on FF? I assume no AF and it is probably difficult to handhold.

You do retain AF; the aperture becomes a still-decent f/5.6.
