Default Monitors

I don't know which thread to put my question but I am just wondering what type of monitor do you have?

I have this Sony Trinitron monitor which I am beginning to hate. It lied to me all this time about the colours. I keep brightening my photos as I thought they were too dark. So when I uploaded my photos from my new SLR, I was tad disappointed even though I knew it was me that need to understand exposure better. When I looked at those photos in my DH's monitor I was amazed at the difference. The colours are more natural! Same thing with other photos on the internet on his monitor.

I am seriously considering upgrading my monitor. I just want to leave my photos as untouched as possible! I was thinking LCD but my DH thinks CRT monitors are better than LCD and plasmas. But it seems that things are changing, according to Iiyama.

Opinions please!

Do my editing on a Samsung SyncMaster CRT. The colors look better than on my Gateway laptop LCD. It's easier to see the noise and contrast on the CRT also.

Just one man's opinion of the two unit's I have.

Depends on your primary use, like everything else we deal with. If you are going to be working with photoshop a lot, you will find the crt is inherently (sp) going to provide more accurate colors. With the LCD, you need to spend $$$ for a good one to get accurate colors, and will calibrate like you want. A lot, tons, of people are using all sorts of LCD's, but they are correcting in their brains for what their printer output will be. It's easy enough to color correct with either, if you are only going to view pictures on a computer or tv.

I am editing video and photo on a couple of cheap crt's, Compaq P700 and a Starlogic of some kind. I want to upgrade to larger, lighter, space saving LCD's, but I've read enough reviews (dealing with monitors and editing) to keep me away from the ones that I can afford.

I'm with René on this one, check out either a Pantone Huey or a Colourvision Spyder2 for calibrating you're existing monitor. I'm not a huge Sony fan, but they usually make pretty decent monitors and it may well be that once you've calibrated it properly you'll be surprised at the difference.

Yep....and you'd even want to calibrate a new monitor.

I use this one:
