Default G3 battery life in cold weather

Hi -

I'm going on a trip to Upstate NY next weekend and was wondering how long I can expect my G3 battery to last in the cold weather.

It's probably going to be about 5 degrees Fahrenheit during the day and drop below zero at night. I’ll be outside most of the time with my G3.

On a warm day I can get 250 or so pics on a single battery using the LCD, etc.

Well, I can tell you that my original BP-11 battery operates at about 3/4 at very cold temperatures as opposed to the normal temperatures. Last time I was out shooting astrophotography images, a single battery lasted about 1 to 1.25 hours. I shot an entire 256mb card in LS JPG (about 120 images) before I got the low battery warning. Oh, and it was at or close to 0 deg F.

Get a couple spares.

Default Keep it warm..

Keep it warm, snuggled up against your body, and take it out when you need it

That should help keep the battery life a bit longer.
Bring extra batteries, and keep them in the inside of your jacket

Looks like I need to pick up a few extra batteries.

Anyone have any recommendations on where to buy replacement G3 batteries?

I found this site that has them for $11 but not sure if it's a rip off or not:

That is a good price. If you end up buying there let us know. I could use
another battery too.

Default One battery vs. two

I was wondering if it's a better idea to have 2 batteries instead of one from battery's life point of view. I heard someone say that the battery life is determined by number of times it goes through charging cycle and not by overall usage. If that's true, then I think it makes sense to have two of them so that I can use one all the way till I get low battery signal, thereby reducing the number of of times I would recharge it. If I have just one battery, then it's risky to wait till low battery sign and so I will probably use it less before recharging it. What do you guys say?
