Default Another Jumping Spider Reversed 50 thread but my first time posting

Ok this is my first time posting pics although I have posted comments a few times in various threads.

I used my Sigma 70 - 300mm lens and a canon FD 50mm lens reversed, all the aperture control was done with the 50mm at f/22 couldn't see much in the view finder, while the Sigma lens was wide open.
This jumping spider was very cooperative though, no flash was used as I don't have an external flash unit yet but I am looking at getting a 580EX in the not to distant future, so all shots are done with Natural light.

CC welcome

Thanks for looking

Allan
Ok my bad I just realized that this first shot was with the Kit lens and a close-up filter

The remaining shots are with the Sigma 70 - 300 and a reversed Canon FD 50mm f/1.8

Wow- I like the second one a lot. Good detail and very close. Looks almost as cuddly as a kitten. Well, almost!

Given the fact that you were shooting this through an f/22 aperture... wow! Impressive! Wait till you get yourself a flash and bracket... then you'll start having a GOOD ol time! As for shooting with that FD lens... you can use your finger at the business end to manualy close the aperture right before you shoot. I do the same thing with just my 28mm f/2.8 reversed... focus at f/2.8 and flip the aperture to f/22 right before hitting the shutter.

Sirsloop
Yeah I actually constructed a little piece to hold the lever for the aperture, kind of like a little notched brace made out of a lollipop stick, installed this and then mounted the lens to the camera, so when I used the aperture it actually closed down the iris (Blades) which is why I could barely see through the view finder. I get where you're coming from though.
But it today everything worked, especially because I had the Mirror lock up custom feature enabled so I clicked the button and waited 10 seconds for the camera to settle on the tripod and then clicked the button again.
I Definitely need Macro focus rails for this magnification.

But I'm very pleased with the results so far
Thank you for the CC

You are really lucky that the spider didn't move during these long exposures! #2 is an excellent shot

Allan: I didn't realize your lenses were stacked until just now..... Shoot the 50 wide open always..... Adjust aperture with your main lens. You will have plenty of light for focusing, you won't need the long shutter speeds, and you won't need to steady camera while fiddling with aperture ring hoping nothing moved before taking the shot.. One final note... You won't need focus rails or tripod or anything else once you get a flash at the end of the lenses..... That is one of the beauties of the stacked rev setup.... It an be hand held so it is portable and can be used in marginal light so it is good in the bushes too....Try it you'll like it .....Alex

Thank you all for the comments and the help it is really appreciated.
Alex Paul
I tried the reversed lens for the aperture control this time as previous attempts, using the Sigma lens on the camera produced a lot of shots with Vignetting and shallow depth of field
ISO was 400, Shutter speed was like 4 Secs, Everytime the Jumper would move I would place the lid from the container over him (like putting a hood over a hawk) which would calm him down, (also stop freaking my wife out) I could then reconfigure stuff like the tripod, the lens etc
So obviously I can't do this all the time with every bug, but I wanted to do some serious experimenting, to see what worked and what didn't

Amazing closeups
As Alex mentioned it's more normal to use the 50mm lens wide open and focused on infinity and use the main lens to control aperture.
