Default Which online store

Hi there guys and gals, just a quick ? for those of you who have made use of online photography stores.

A friend of mine will be coming over from the US early in Jan and is willing to help me out by bringing me a camera. I can get the 30D with the 17-85 lens for 35% cheaper from him than what I can source it locally for, so it is definately a great deal. Having browsed around it would seem that B & H Photo offer really good deals, just not sure if they are one of the better stores to deal with.

If anyone has had dealings with them please let me know how the service and everything was, or if there is someone else you would better recommend please let me know. I need to order and pay for it online and they will ship it to him. I live in South Africa btw hence my lack of knowledge regarding the best online stores in the US of A

TIA, much appreciated.

B&H is probably the largest camera store in the world. I personally like beachcamera.com for quick delivery and better prices. I've ordered a lot from both and they are both good. Check pricegrabber.com and resellerratings.com to check on the stores.

B&H is great to do business with. I've purchased several lenses and other gear from them, and traded in old camera gear to them. Regarding the trade in, they offered me $220 for gear that the local camera shop offered $75. The only problem I ever had with them was one lens arrived with an issue (caused an error 99 on whichever body it was on), they handled the return and exchange for a new one very professionally and promptly. I've had no problems with them at all. Can't wait to save up enough for my next purchase from them.

KEH
Samys
Calumet Photo
Beach Camera
Budig.com
Buy.com
Frys.com
onecall.com

all great places. B&H is about the largest place there is.

Check shopzilla.com for price comparisons. I've purchased two of my lenses through there and saved a few hundred dollars that way.

prestigecamera.com has great prices but I've never ordered from there. My coworker has though and did not have any problems.

If you want a lifetime warranty go with Costco.com.

Another plug for B&H. I have purchased a ton of gear over the years, and never had a problem returning anything.

Always had GREAT experience with Beach Camera - highly recommended. I have also dealt a number of times with B&H - cannot go wrong with them either.

I use B&H and adorama without any problems, both very helpful to deal with. Beach , I'm told, is also very respectable.

Another vote for B&H Photo. I've ordered most of my camera gear from them over the years and I've never had any problem with them whatsoever. I just bought my Canon 30D and 580EX Speedlight from them about a month ago.

Can't recommend them highly enough.

Maybe this is the exception but I'd look out for Adorama.. They tried to sell me used screen calibration software for the price of new. When the program wouldn't install due to excessive scratches on the disc, I emailed Adorama and never got a response from them. Luckily I had put the order in through Amazon and they refunded my money. I won't buy from them in the future.

Another tip of the hat to B&H - great to do business with over the years. KEH is also right up there.....been an excellent source for some of my used Hasselblad gear. - Stu

Ordering from Canada, I usually use B&H, but sometimes use Adorama if B&H is out of stock, does not carry what I want or has a higher price. I always check both before ordering.

I have had great luck with www.beachcamera.com Just understand their return policy. I use www.bizrate.com to check up on online stores before making a purchase.

I haven't used them but I hear that B&H and Buydig are good as well.

Best of luck to you!
