Default Getting s400 today. What should I look for problem-wise?

I bought an S400 from Beachcamera.com and it should be arriving today.

What should I look for, besides dead pixels and mis-aligned focus assist lamp, to check that the camera is functioning properly? On another thread, someone here mentioned grinding noises coming from the lens mechanism. Any other S400 specific quirks?

Thanks.

Default No problems!

Got my S400. Everything checked out great, this camera is a real gem. Picture-wise, my old S230 is no match for my new S400.

I highly recommend the S400.

With the small size and the case available from Canon, there is no excuse not to take this Cam anywhere. A 256 MB card or bigger is helpful to store the highest res pix with the lowest compression.

Already have 256MB and 512MB CF cards, and 2 spare batteries from my old S230. Everyone who owns either of these cams definately needs at least a 256MB card and one extra battery.

Happy Shooting!

I just got my s400 in today and have a quick question. When I focus it to take a picture, there is a somewhat loud clicking noise, which I am sure is coming from the auto-focus mechanism. Is this normal? Do you hear clicking noises when you focus your s400? Thanks!

Yes, the clicking noise is normal. You are correct that it is just the autofocus mechanism. I did notice that it is louder/softer from camera to camera when I demoed S400's in Best Buy and Circuit City a few months ago.
