just picked up a used one of these. UH date code so its a bit old, but still looks great from the simple test shots I was able to take. I am on a prime kick with a 35 2.0 pick up yesterday. Not sure which one i will keep but cant want to throw some pics up in here. All of the examples I have seen are excellent.

Peeaanuut, welcome aboard! The 24mm f/2.8 is a fine lens. I've taken some really nice (IMHO) photos with it. It does have its limitations, but if you work within the limitations it can produce fine results.

I would LOVE to see some images w/ this lense taken by the 5D Mark III. i like to see if the images would be even sharper and better then if using the 5D2.

This is one my favourite lenses, obviously not as wide on the crops, but still a nice focal length and the size makes it easy to travel with! Don't think I could justify the extra $500 or so to upgrade to the latest USM model!

Ahh I may have found what I've been looking for. Was hoping to get a 17-40L or Sigma 20mm f/1.8, but unless I can find a good used deal, I may go with the 24mm. Can anyone give a comparison on the difference between the 20mm and 24mm on a 5D II?

Speedy_2, it's not a perfect lens. It distorts a little, but that's fairly easily corrected, and it's not as sharp in the corners as other, more expensive 24mm lenses, but it really does hold it's own. From what I've seen, it's sharper than both the 24-105 f/4L and the 24-70 f/2.8 @ 24mm. I've never played with either, but that is what I've seen from testers here on the internet. You will get a better lens if you spring for the 24mm f/1.4L II, but you'll be paying much more for it too!

Speedy_2, by the way, I've never used the 20mm f/2.8, so I cannot comment on it directly. It is a bit wider, so it would be more dramatic! I actually considered it before I bought the 24mm, but I decided to stick with the more conservative 24mm f/2.8.
