I shot a boxing card at the Chumash Casino Resort on Friday night. It was produced by Gary Shaw Productions (external link) and the two main events were televised by ShoBox: The New Generation. A number of these images are available via FightWireImages (external link) a wire service run by Ed Mulholland et alia, a POTN member.

This was the first ot two main event bouts. Two of the previous undercard events were ended by unintentional head butts that caused excessive bleeding and had to be stopped and called technical draws. When Jaime started bleeding and the referee Raul Caiz stopped to look at the cut the crowd went wild booing him! While the bout was stopped near the end of the last scheduled round, they were not pleased but did seem to agree with the result.

With no further delay for you, the boxing:
#1 Sportrait of Tim taken with my 300mm f/2.8L IS ... love this lens.

#2 This was pretty much the look of the entire bout with Tim pounding Jaime. Also notice both Nikon and Canon glass on the opposite mat.

#3 One of the "better" action images I caught.

#4 You already see that Jaime is cut over his right eye although it is not bleeding badly at this point.

#5 But as the eighth round was running, the eye starting pouring, virtually blindly him.

#6 Tim "Desert Storm" Bradley in victory:

Mike, thank you ... fortunately they do all the work!

900, thank you ... it has taken two years of compassionate tutoring by several world class boxing togs, particularly our POTN member Ed Mulholland, to manage this result. I have worked my a$$ off to learn how to get even these humble images.

Tim is using both arms to deliver the punches and is following through with his entire body...as evidenced by the great definition in his upper legs...

he has exceptional definition in his upper body of very lean and speedy muscles...He's looks like a well put together package, and if he trained thoroughly in the past ,and will continue into the future...who knows we might see more of him...

I assume you are still shooting these with only available light, considering exif says flash didn't fire and you are shooting at 1/500th?

I really need to shoot some local boxing.

Thank you,

Yes, available light ... but there is a lot of it as it was for ShowTime and they do a superb job! Yes, shoot boxing ... you should go read my latest blog entry on boxers vs singers! :-)

Well, I am not a boxing person but Tim looked great all the way through and Jaime looked worse and worse after about three rounds. I would have thought it was a fair mismatch from this one bout. It was 79/73 by all three judges for eight rounds ... pretty significant.

WOW!! Cracking shots there! I always appreciate indoor shots with a high shutter speed. How powerful was the ambient light there?

Great! It was my favorite from the whole night ... well, second to the sportrait of Ann Wolfe! :-)

Rumrunner, the lighting was for TV so was excellent.
