Let me start by saying that I have had some time on my hands. I have been at home sick and bored out of my mind. I saw this photoshop technique on a forum and thought I would give it a try. I am trying to develop my photoshop skills. I know it still needs a little work, like the hood latch cables hanging. I just spotted that.
I don't like the angle the car is sitting at but that is all I had at the time. Yes, I took the original picture and yes this is a bad a** car. You should hear it running, *drool Original picture: ![]() Photoshop: ![]() Last edited by Sp00ks : 6th of December 2006 (Wed) at 18:51. |

I think it's great, except that you chopped off the hood pins hanging down past the bumper.
I've never really mastered the extraction. I can do it, but it takes me a painstakingly long time. Did you use Photoshop's extract filter or magnetic lasso, or something completely different?

Thanks, Obviously I have not either. I saw that when I spotted the cables hanging. I guess I could clone them out all together.
Ive been using something different. Vertus fluid mask. It has its good points and its bad points. I do think it is quicker than the magic wand, but it can be just as big a pain in the butt to use. **Ok, cloned out the hood pin cables. ** Last edited by Sp00ks : 6th of December 2006 (Wed) at 18:52. |

Actually, I think your extraction was done really well. The thing about the hood pins was just a nitpick. Using Photshop's Extract filter, I think that might have taken me 15-20 minutes to get that clean. I'm not sure if cloning them out or showing the hood pins is better. I guess you can try both, but I'm thinking the hood pins would make it look even more bad ass, and hood pins are just plain cool on classic American muscle cars, especially when they are real.
I have found that Photoshop's Extract Filter works far better than the magic wand, but it's an art in itself. I'll have to check out Vertus fluid mask. Thanks!!

Selecting areas in PS. That's a great car! I might have taken the trunk lid out, too, & I doubt that anyone would notice. Good job, though!

very good except for the reflection which is just annoying - PhotosGuy's ideas on the latter make sense.

I really like it, I too think the reflection should be a bit darker, also I would introduce some sort of distortion to the reflection, natural reflections are not perfect.
Might be just me but I would close the trunk... using Photoshop that is... |

I agree with the reflection, if it's a seperate layer just play with the opacity a bit

My opinion (which really isn't worth much) is that the reflection should touch the car in the back and the left front. Do that and blur it and all the other suggestions, and I think you'd be right on.

I showed the owner the pic today and he liked it, so I guess that is what matters. He seemed genuinely excited about it. This from a man that has everything he wants (came out of retirement to be ceo of a company) He has a mercedez v8 compressor, a jag (not sure of the version, XJ-12 I think), amoung others. |

This was just the subject I choose to try the reflection on. I could do without it myself, I suppose.

I agree. I tried but could not get the angle to cooperate properly.

Great looking GTX, When doing reflections such as this you should mate the points at which items being reflected touch the ground. also drop the opacity of the reflection layer and liquify slightly to give a light distortion.
