how about this one? did quite a bit in PS, including removing a building from the background. pic was taken at 10am in late Nov. i know i would have had better light even earlier in the day.

A reflector might have helped brighten her face....Jim

I had left the reflector at home since I didn't have anyone to hold it.....should've brought it and the tripod and braced it against that.
Any other advice? 60+ views and no other comments?

Your subject seems overpowered by the backlighting. A reflector, as mentioned above, or some fill flash may have helped.

Seems lighting on the face is the only issue I have. Ok, maybe that you came so close to the feet yet cut them off. The way the picture was taken makes you want to follow the lines of the extended leg but then hit a dead end right at the foot.

Lighting aside ... the pose is lacking. Her right should is cut off partly as is her hand. It would have worked much better created from twice as far away. Keep in mind how I think ... I can always crop later but I can never move back once the image is created. Her legs are not posed in a very feminine way.
Ok, now on to lighting. Keep a light stand with you. You can clamp a reflector to it. I own lots of light stands, and clamps. But, for this image, the ratio from highlights to blacks is way too broad. I would have created images of her in open shade given the time of day. |

Its a very flat image and the lighting, WB and exposure is way off...
