Default Anyone in NYC area interested in shooting?

At some point this month or so, i'm planning on going on a round about trip all over manhattan to do a series. I've always planned on doing a series of bridges in new york city. If you're interested, give me a holla / PM

I'm heading out to the Brooklyn DUMBO area to get shots of teh bridges from a park there (saw it on another forum)

I'm hoping to go this weekend.. I was hoping to go early so I could get some sunrise shots but will probably end up going wtih a big strong neighbor of mine... another photog bug...

Interested? If not, I'd still be interested in going around with you. I'm still learning and need all the help I can get. Keep in mind... my equipment log is extremely limited... haven't lept to dSLR yet... *sigh

If you guys get a chance, go to the west side highway down past 96th street and get along the river. Great shots of the GW. I drive past it every morning and keep threating to pull over in one of the prking lots to take a few shots.

Alos, get to the mid to hi 40's on the east side and get the 59th street bridge or go over to the high 70's and you could get the Tram going across with the bridge behind it.

Just for us "Non New Yorkers" (Hell I ain't even American!), you're talking about getting a shot of the George Washington Bridge from the Riverside Park at around 96th Street or higher? And just to make sure...can you cross over the Amtrak line to get closer to the river?

I've been on there. In fact, I've posted some pictures from that pathway near the river. We walked the whole legnth of Washington Heights... right underneath the bridge... great views... I'm sure with a more equipped camera you could get some awesome shots.

I'll see if I can cojole a friend into coming too. Looking forward to it!

Paul if you enter riverside park either way uptown at 180th street or around 96th (or even in between) you can go right over to river's edge where there is a path.

If you don't want to go intot eh city for the shot you can go to either: Fort Lee Historical Park for an up-close look at the bridge, or you can go to the palisades interstate park boat basin for a long view looking south and then drive under the bridge.

Fort Lee park:

Thanks a lot Crissa! I'll be staying in West 81st Street so I can walk to the park, although I'll probably take the No.1 subway train to 96th and enter the Riverside Park from there and just stroll up towards the GW bridge snapping a shot as I go.

My MTA map I have here shows the Amtrak being between me and the riverside so I wondered if you have to cross over it at some point (or is it underground?)

As far as I know Amrtack lines are on one side of the road, Water on the other, look at the West Side Highway, not Riverside Drive, once you get above 86th street Riverside goes more inland and the train will interfere. Look at Riverside PARK, not drive. Take a peek here . Above 158 street it becomes fort washington park, and don't forget to visit the little red lighthouse under the George Washington Bridge!

Thanks for the link. That's really a great site. I hope that when October rolls around I might be able to organise a get together and a bit of photography along Riverside Park for interested POTNers
