My flock pales in comparison. I suddenly feel inadequate...

CDS,
Them there birds look a little strange for Canada geese. Might they be Brant?

The "sweet sound" makes them brant. Really nice image. (don't want to say "shot" with TomW lurking around....makes him get all glassy eyed)

I'm on the laptop but the image does not look dull to me at all.

Nice geese pictures, everybody, really nice.

CDS, what lens did you use to get the background blurred out like that. Unless you were quite a distance from the flock you must have used a shorter telephoto, right?

No,. it's my 500mm,. I'm looking for exif now.. but I think the aperture was up about f/7-8 or so.....

hang on..........

Wow,. how's this for memory? ... f/7.1 ISO 200, 1/640 shutter.

I was quite far away,. they were about 1/3 of the way across a small salt water pond.. partially frozen over.

Thanks for the info, CDS.

BTW, if you get a free moment, I was wondering if you could do me a big favor and take two shots of something, one using a focal length of 400mm and another using 500mm. I'm just curious as to what the difference is in terms of angle of view between the two. I already have a 100-400 and I'm wondering if a 500 is going to make a big difference.

Thanks.

I can do it,. but currently the only way I can get to 400mm is with a 2X t-con on a 70-200mm....

(unlike some people I know who can do it with 4 different combos)

200 x 2 is fine. I just need a visual of a 400 vs 500 so that'll work just fine, too.

Thanks again.
