needed a light for light tent and other general indoor/around the house shots

so i went to walmart and bought a 500 watt worklight. it was cheap and is a 500watt halogen worklight. Will this work?

light tent photos can be done on a tripod, so any lamp will do. I use cheap-o gooseneck desk lamps, and often end up with 10 second exposures.
