Default FIlters? I need some help selecting.

I want to buy a good set of filters, cp, nd and grad nd, but i don;t want to buy a set for each one of my lenses. Do they sell ring adapters? If so what filters do you guys suggest. I am from film and i just use to use tiffen and hoya.

What size should i buy? 77mm? And then step them down with an adapter?

Thanks in advance

As far as the grad ND is concerned, I would not go too far with buying a 77mm and then using a step-up ring. To take it to the extreme, if you put the 77mm on a lens that takes a 58mm filter, you will use only the center portion of the filter - not the clear, and not the full ND.

Other than that, the philosophy would work, but you may find that you can't use your hood.

Have Fun,

For grads, a rectangular one in a filter holder like Cokin's or Lee's would be best; these also take adapter rings for various lens dimeters.

Whatever filter you get, make sure they're good multi-coated ones. I use B+W MRC mostly. Hoya's SHMC and better are also good as are Heliopan. Tiffen's less so. My grads are Singh Rays.
