My school assignment for photography is to take a shot that states "disappointment". I am free to shoot anything I like (except cats and kids since he says he does not like them), that at first glance says "disappointment".
I am trying to think of some ideas... I do not want to take a picture of a person just looking disappointed since that is open to interpretation and I think most of the other students will try that shot. I am looking for something creative... anyone have any ideas ![]() |

I think you have to bring elements into the photo that tell a store of disappoinment. Some thoughts would be:
1. Runners at the end of the finish line - the winner to the side lifting arms in joy, the 2nd place person bent over and showing emotion about the loss. 2. A man with an engagement ring looking down as the woman walks away. 3. An open box surrounded by wrapping paper and the expression of the person opening the gift. 4. Photo of a bonus check of small value sitting atop a statement showing 90% of a larger sum going to taxes and fees. Hope that helps. Mark

To carry on Mark's thought....any competition of any kind will give you what you want. Horse events often involve younger people that might be less in control of their emotions. Soccer comes to mind. This time of year... swimming, basketball, gymnastics. As your instructor doesn't like kids, think college.

I think sports are your best bet. This time of year you'll probably only find soccer or rugby. For soccer I'd get behind the goal and focus on the ball carrier. They will often express emotion after a missed shot. Or get the goalie after a goal. Lots of possibilities. Just thought...hockey, too, but hockey is fast and hard to shoot although you might focus on the bench. Players will often be emotional after a shift. Hope this helps.

Could show a line of people waiting outside a store and their expressions as an employee hangs up a sign that says "Playstation3 sold out"

Some more ideas....
A woodworker working on a piece that has just been cut wrong and obviously won't fit. A golfer looking into the water trap where his ball just went. A mother looking at the filthy kid coming home from play. Someone looking over their "modified" automobile after a crash.

Simple....A N*k*n box with a ribbon around it. Can't get much more disappointing than that!

Take a picture of a kid holding a cat and ask him how he feels, you never know he may be disappointed

Thanks again for all the suggestions. I think I have narrowed down to three and I will have to decide today.
1) I like the idea of a lady walking away while a guy is on his knees with a look of disappointment. I think if I do this shot I will add a red rose discarded at the man's feet. 2) A person in a hamburger joint with a sign over his shoulder announcing a Jumbo Burger with a picture of a large hamburger beneath. The person would be at the table with his hamburger unwrapped and in the middle of the wrapping would be a mini-burger. 3) A woman lying in bed in her nightgown looking toward the camera. In the foreground would be a man's hand with a bottle of viagra open and upside down showing it is empty. All your suggestion did help me to start focusing better. Thanks! |
