Default Mexican Sunrise

Was down in Cancun for a wedding two weeks ago, and managed to wake up early enough for a couple shots of the sunrise.
I've thrown two in here, from different days (yes, I managed to do it twice!)
Any comments would be greatly appreciated!

Taken by an XT with a Tamron 28-75.
First Exif is 1/500, f/10, ISO 100 at 28 mm
Second is 1/50, f/11, ISO 100 at 35mm

I think I like the 2nd the best. But I would have tried to hve a more interesting foreground. The tree looks like a big blotch and the chairs are unnatural. But it seems like exposure of the sunset is right on - just work on composition.

I agree with Stefan, the chairs and tree are a bit distracting. However, I think you did a great job.

PS I know how hard it is to wake up early in Cancun. Especially twice!

Yeah - I was having troubles with the composition. The beach wasn't that deep, and the chairs were everywhere. I put the palpaya on the right hand side, because it seemed odd to have nothing in the foreground.

Here's another shot, without so much in the foreground

To me - that last one you just put up is great. Far superior to the other 2. I would clone that little black mark at the bottom and it would be perfect.

Thanks for everybody’s comments!

I guess the majority opinion is that the 2nd is a little too cluttered, with the 1st and 3rd being tops. I'm a little torn, I do like the first one, simply because of the interaction between the sunrise and the clouds (I find those sun rays really cool). But I also like the 3rd one because of how clear the sun is.

Composition is pretty simple to master. Just think like a kid! If a kid draws the ocean and a sunrise, that's what he draws, not a bunch of half cut off underexposed chairs and half of a palm branch sticking into the side of the picture. Sorry, I'm just trying to be helpful.

I like these, only thing I can think of to maybe make the one with the chairs a little brighter with a little bit of fill light, but either way...I like the shots
