thanks william and jason. i showed it to my dad this morning and he really wasn't too keen on the way he looked in the photo.....though it doesn't really come across in the photo, he was talking to my nine-year old nephew and was about to crack a smile. I think he's coming around to it, but for me it just captures his persona far better than a posed photo where he's smiling.
