Default what % do you use yoru flash?

in 2 parts

% of flash usage at ceremony.

and

% if flash usage at the reception.

Also do you ever use your tripod or monopod?

If so what one and where? What circumstances?

only use flash with procession. None during the ceremony and I'd guess about 50% for reception. I like a lot of table shots and cake shots without flash. I try to get the ambiance that is there.

I use a tripod for the ceremony low light pics. Thats it for that piece of poo. I hate tripods.

very very few places allow flash during the ceremony. don't ever count on it and it'll be a nice surprise when it does happen.

tripod maybe for the formals, thats about it for me. I like to m ove around too much.

reception, I don't kow, maybe half, much of that is with shutter dragging though.

I'd say that I use it at least 80% of the time. Even when there is enough light in the outdoors, a little catch light in the eye is always nice.

50/50 with the flash - the church weddings I have done allow flash so that is good. I never use a tripod - I find them too cumbersome for weddings and I move around way to much for one. In saying that, I wouldn't mind trying out a monopod.

At the reception - just the processional, kiss, and recessional.

The rest of the day, about 85%

100% at the reception.

At the ceremony - just the signing of the register, and recessional - generally no flash allowed during ceremony.

The rest of the day, about 0% (fill) depending on lighting, UK isn't famous for sunny afternoons (100% if necessary - but it never has been), I love the flat soft light from the horrid grey sky.

80% at the reception, mostly dragged, always bounced or diffused.

Ceremony - 0%....dont' allow flash at the weddings normally. If they allow I would only use it for the processional and Recessional.

Posed and what nots: 75%....our summers are bright and sunny so I need some for fill flash.

Reception: 90%....I almost always shoot with a flash during this.

Even if I can use flash at ceremonies, I never do. I use it 100% at receptions, and well over 1/2 (fill) for portraits.

I agree, natural light is always nicest...but sometimes a dimly lit church can create harsh shadows, especially on faces, and if I am able to use flash - even at 50% I will just to light at least the faces. I am very lucky in that the churches here are accepting that the B&G want the best possible images and allow flash in their church. (we are not talking magazine style blow your eyes out flash but more a blink and it's gone flash - lol).

If most people don't use flash during the ceremony, what lens, f-stop, and iso are you shooting at? At at these setting, what are typical shutter speeds you are using?

I'm assuming 50mm or 85mm, at 1.4-1.8, 1600iso, getting 1/60s? Please correct me if I am wrong!
