Default stacking?

hey ive seen the term stacking come up alot on here and Im not quite sure what it is? is it done on photoshop ?

could someone please shed some light on this for me

Stacking is a technique to improve signal to noise ratio in digital images and is mainly used in astrophotography to reduce noise, bring out faint details, and to improve contrast. Some stacks are over 800 images! There are programs to automate this but you can put one photo over another in PS and set the layer to normal at 50%. This is the most basic way to stack. To stack 4 images you would stack the first two then save, stack the last two then save, then stack the two saved stacks together. Hope this answers a few questions.

LordV has some info on this over in the macro forum. Check it out there. Go to the macro forum and at the top under search type in "stacking". It will bring up some thread with discussion and links to the software for it. That is what I did.
