Andrews air show this weekend, be there.
I've never been to the Andrews show- but we go every year to see the Blue Angels in Annapolis the week before. They put on a show for the Naval Academy for graduation ceremonies. We go to the practice runs, which are Tuesday, May 25. The show is Wednesday. They close off the Severn River bridge and people can get great views from an area close by the academy. I'm lucky to have a friend who lives right across the river from the Academy. I can't wait to to see what kind of shots I can get this year.

Any suggestions for settings for fast moving jets at close up range

Here's a few shots from my old point and shoot camera- Sony cybershot

Keep your shutter speed up, and if you can't get it to 1/1000 or so, boost the ISO. Set AF to AI-Servo and pan with the aircraft, keeping the shutter half-pressed.

Thanks- I'm going to have to work on figuring out how to set manual functions. I know that I can set the camera to sports mode for action shots- but have no idea how to set the shutter speed or ISO. Guess I need to get out the instruction manual between now and the 25th. Hopefully, I'll get some decent shots and video if it doesn't rain.

Think I posted these before, it's getting closer. Hope some of you make it! They're all in Ocean City, which is where I prefer to spend the month of June shooting!

May 28th-30th 2010: Ocean City Offshore Powerboat Racing.

June 4th-6th 2010: Ocean City Air Show. 16th street & Boardwalk. Park over the Rt. 50 bridge and take the bus in. POPULAR EVENT.

June 11th-13th 2010: 10th Annual Longboard Surfing Challenge. 37th Street & Boardwalk Ocean City.

June 19th-20th 2010: Art's Alive. Art show at Northside Park in Ocean City. June 20th is also International Surfing Day - 9am. (Last one I attended was at the Inlet beach)

Hey Milleker thanks for the event date. I may try and make it to the surfing challenge. I would love to do the boat racing but have family member coming in town. I was at the Air Show yesterday and all I can say - it's one of the best free entertainment you can get. I had my 400 5.6 and 1.4tc and for some shots I had too much focal length. I was stubborn and would not take the 1.4 off but I got some nice shots. I will post some after I go thru them; took quite a few.

Ill be in ocean city for the Air show the 4-6th and would love to hook up with some people there. John I noticed on the ocean city air show website you can buy tickets, is that necessary for good shooting?

Set the camera to Tv and you'll be able to set the shutter speed with the little dial by the shutter speed. There should be a button labeled "ISO" and that'll let you use the buttons on the back to change the ISO. Those are general directions; I haven't looked at the T2's manual recently if at all.

Thanks! I know I need to read the manual more before the show. I'm anxious to see what I can come up with.

Sue, you might want to pick up a beginners book, under $20 and very helpful to under why you make changes to your camera settings.

Ellie, I'll send you a message with my contact information. I'll have two other Photographers with me that day.

You don't *need* to be in the 'Drop Zone View Area' to get great shots, but it's a three block stretch of beach. The skydivers land in the middle and all of the air acts sort of try to center there too. $30 for two days isn't bad. Whatever you choose be sure to bring a chair or blanket, sunscreen! Take public transit unless you get there VERY early. The buses did a great job last year!

Neill, my two photo buddies have proposed a leave time of 6am. Google maps says that's about 84 miles from my house, nearly two hours. They insist it doesn't take that long but just to be sure, we'll be inside the park by 8AM.

I'll private message you my cell number, if you make it to the park give me a call. I'll bring my extenders if you want to try them, after purchasing such a sweet lens extenders get you some extra oomph for cheap.

John,
6 AM is so early! I'm supposed to be going to a going away party for a coast guard buddy tonight, and I know it'll lead to some drinking. I do wanna go, so i'm going to try and drag my lazy butt out of bed. I'll text/call first thing in the monring , prior to 6am. If you don't hear from me assume I couldn't get up.
