Default Getting good focus in low light

What do you guys do when there isn't even enough light on the subject you're shooting to be able to manually focus it through the view finder? I had this problem last night, I couldn't tell if I was in perfect focus or not.

IMO there is not much you can do (assuming you are already using your widest aperture and highest ISO) except take lots of images and harvest the best. I have a 50mmF/1.4 which I use in low light situations and I will take lots of images and trash most but the keepers are great!. Good lucl, Dennis

I was thinking, does anyone carry a flashlight with them to help focus?

I have been experimenting with my new 70-200mm 4L in dark situations and I find it a great help to use max zoom onto my focus area, which gives me a chance to get a decent focus and when I have set the focus, simply zoom out to compose the shot and the area you focussed on remains in focus. of course you have to use manual focus, but it works for me.

Interesting, I'll have to try that, thanks!
