Default Winterlude (Ottawa)

Beautiful day yesterday for the final weekend of the Winterlude carnival here in Ottawa.

Ottawa is home of the World's Longest skating rink @ 7.8km's.

Here is a small section packed full of people yesterday

They have a very large number of hand carved ice sculptures every year. This one obviously representing the US.

And here's our's representing Canada
( He was holding a flag, but it broke.)

Ah yes, all were taken with the XT and kit lens.

Looks like a fun event. Those ice sculptures are amazing and I can only admire at the skill involved in making them. I'd love to see people pics close up.

The close ups i took didn't focus properly But here are a couple of shots of the actual sculpters working away at the ice.

Here they are using a small chainsaw to get the ice formed properly.

Here we see them working at the finer details with small files and chisels.

Last one: Here you can see the timer counting down. This was a timed event they had exactly 3 hours to create their masterpieces. Roughlly 33 minutes left.

Thanks for sharing! That's some talent. It takes a certain mindset to create something so beautiful that will melt in a few hours. As for me, I can hardly take out an ice cube from an ice tray without chipping it a bit
