I ordered a A640 but have a chance to return it free of charge and go with the S3IS. The S3IS is the camera that I originally wanted but was told it would not fit into a pocket.
I did go to a Canon dealer and looked at the S3IS which looked about the same size as my Canon S30 that I just sold. I could not try to fit the S3IS into my "T" shirt at the store as they were all bolted down to the display case. Also I saw the A640 wich would fit into my pocket no problem just by looking at it. I usually take a camera with me when I ride my bike and in the past I usually tucked the S30 in my T shirt or flannel shirt or inner jean jacket and never had a problem. I did stick a ruler in my T shirt pocket and measured the dimensions that Canon Supplied on there site and looked if it should fit. Has anyone tried this with success? TIA, John |

Ha.... Not a chance! I used to be able to fit my G-1 in my PANTS [not jeans] pocket easily. I can still JUST get my S3 in my pocket. And I hate neck straps. I know your feeling...

The deeper ones in the front. I don't know what you call those... I pretty much live in J.C. Penney's 'Big-Mac', Khaki, cotton mix, wash and wear, work pants. [We called 'em
'Wash Khaki' when I was in the service... as opposed to 'Dress Khaki' that had to be dry cleaned] |

I can't fit my camera in a reasonable sized bag, let alone a shirt pocket

If I ever see anyone with an S3 in their T shirt pocket, I sure do want a picture of it!

Well looks like i will just stay with the A640. This is causing me too much brain stress BTW would anybody know the total zoom I could get with the telephoto adapter on the A640? Thanks, John |

Yeah...me, too. 'Back in those days', my wife had a pretty small camera that she used, from the buddy seat. But she stored it in MY large front leather jacket pocket!
I have even debated keeping the G-1 in service for such things as going to a county fair, where I want both hands free a lot. But the S3 has been pretty demanding, learning all the many more things it has/does, and I don't want to let off on that learning experience. Tough choices... my sympathies... |
