I personaly couldn't give a ****, I hate most of that stuff and would be glad to leave after getting the shots.

Also, sometimes the artist won't even let you shoot them from a short distance, you have to be 30+ feet away. Afraid you'll pickup all their blemishes or something.
this pisses me off, but i guess you learn to live with it. i hate it when you are told that there is a ticket AND a photo pass and then you get escorted out after the song limit.
this past nye, they told us we had to check our cameras at the general coat check after the three songs. i called bullsh*t and would not back down on that one. of course one i talked my way through it, there was no way i could pull out my camera from my seat.

Great pics! Not a lot of pics of Jeff though. Good capture of Dave on the end too!

Great shots, mate. Makes for a refreshing change of perspective from the usual pit shots. Rock on!

the place is a relatively big theater, the balcony holds 750+ people alone I believe.

Last shot is the best of the set.
Very nice. Looks like a very pretty venue as well.

Hi there

Nice shots... by the way Tom...
I used to hate covering music/gig assignments... you never get to work properly, always treated like ****... I reckon the music industry PR people just hate the press, but consider a minimum publicity necessary. They usually have their own photogs doing the main shos anyway.

I did Duran Duran at Wembley one time and during two of our allowed three songs they filled the stage with smoke, and backlit it... so we saw bugger all...Just into track three I thought "**** it!" I can't see them and broke out the strobe... we were getting kicked out anyway... Managed to get off about ten frames, the strobe cutting a bit through the smoke and murk...Final shots although lacking some of the atmosphere were pretty good, as the flash filled the backight and looked quite cool.. Good enough to get published around the world.
Most times though you don't get the option of moving up to the balcony and shooting from there..
We usually got escorted out... For a Bowie gig in Paris they graciously let us stand at the back and listen as long as we shot no more pictures...

Another time a colleague smuggled a 400mm 5.6 into the stadium for Madonna, hiding is in a plastic Coke bottle... He got the best shots I saw of the gig aznd her PR people even wanted to buy pictures off us.. LOL!!

I prefer sports, you get a front row seat, and time to work properly...

Regards
Gareth

Wonderful stuff! I am thankful in some ways that the conditions I work in are more hospitable (not the talent but the venue) on the one had, but on the other I don't get the groups that have the level of emotional power of Slayer ... they are all too old! Hell, half the groups only have half their original people, which I believe is the case with the group I'm shooting tonight ... The Moody Blues.

I am taking my 400mm f/2.8L and tripod/monopod to more events as the talent seems to be getting more and more difficult about shooting. I love to handhold my 300mm f/2.8 but it just doesn't have enough reach when used back at the lightboard. But I'd much rather use my 5D and 15mm fisheye!

Lyle Lovett and Englerbert Humperdinck wouldn't let me shoot at all, period, end of story! Fortunately my employer pays me anyway.
