I got my first L lens in the mail on friday. Im pretty excited.
I got the 70-200 f/4 IS. I considered waiting a month and getting the 2.8, but didnt want to get hooked on the expensive lenses. So, I smelled the inside of the lens. Maybe I'm weird... but it had a pretty unique smell. Anyone else do this?

No way; it's like a new book, or something fresh of the copy machine, you have to give it a good sniff.
Or is that just me...

Thanks for replying, I was thinking I was the only one that did that.

It's like the new-computer-gear smell. Despite more years around them than I can remember, I usually take the time to stop n sniff. Same with new car.
They say it's bad for your health, but heck so are all my other vices |

You sure you were smelling a new book and not something that came from the fish market?

lol, maybe its the way they are made in the uk, some paperback books can smell really nasty. but for the most, new things have that distinct smell, like a new car

Really? That sucks, I rather like the new book smell. It's not as high on the list as fresh mown grass, if someone made a candle line from that I'd let my wife buy a gross, but it pleases me.

Do you stroke and caress the lenses as well - or does just smelling them do it for you?
Just teasing. Mark
